Diabetes is not a trivial condition
THIS week is National Diabetes Week, aiming to raise awareness of a condition that affects 1.7 million people in Australia.
Twenty-two year old Johanna Boyce from Sale was diagnosed with type 1 in 2014, and said her life had changed dramatically since then.
“I have to pre-plan everything in my day, from food, to travel, to exercise — there’s no room for spontaneity or error,” Ms Boyce said. Her partner David has become a full-time carer, and said communication played a big role in making sure Johanna’s glucose levels stayed within a healthy range.
